As we face the challenges of the 21st century, we envision our students successfully interacting in their world, each contributing his or her best through a broader knowledge of each other, with insight and a deeper understanding of the similarities and diversities in cultures.
Our goal is to instill in all of our students the values and knowledge they need to play active roles in this new, exciting world. We are dedicated to providing a balanced and international curriculum to prepare our students to face the challenges they will meet in their lives by giving all students the individual attention needed to maximize their potential; by creating a disciplined, stable and caring community where students learn to be sensitive to others and to challenge themselves; by providing a careful system of guidance; by being a truly international school open to all; by preserving each student's cultural identity while encouraging understanding and tolerance of different cultures and perspectives.
We consider the following student profile to be our guiding principle and strive for each student to become:
An inquirer, when he or she shows interest in the world, asks questions and actively enjoys learning.
A thinker, when he or she develops theories of cause and effect, sorts and classifies, and shows interest in big ideas.
A communicator, when he or she engages in discourse, manages social interactions and expresses thoughts through verbal and graphic languages.
A risk-taker, when he or she tries new ways of doing things.
Knowledgeable, when he or she knows and understands significant content.
Principled, when he or she begins to see another childs point of view, is honest and begins to show a sense of fairness.
Caring, when he or she shows sensitivity towards the needs and feelings of others, and is able to be a part of a community of learners.
Open-minded, when he or she is open to new experiences and to the beliefs and ideas of other children.
Reflective, when he or she is able to think about behaviour and if necessary, work on some strategies for change
The International School of Larissa is an academic community composed of students, faculty and parents united in a philosophy which is dedicated to fostering in all of its students a love of learning, self-discipline and selfknowledge, and true commitment to the concept of international understanding. The community upholds the belief that what a school chooses to teach is reflected in its regard for its human relationships, in its appreciation of cultural diversity and the manner in which it interacts with all of its members. The community is proud of its sense of family and the friendships and camaraderie that it inspires.
The curriculum is broad-based and flexible. Students develop the tools and inner resources that will enable them to cope with a demanding and complex world. A low faculty-student ratio caters to the individual needs of each student and contributes to a learning environment which stimulates personal, intellectual, artistic, social and physical development. The close interaction of all members of the International School of Greece community effectively encourages the students to achieve high personal standards of academic success, maximize each students potential and contributes to his or her total educational experience.
(a few words from the President)
When I made my commitment to the International School of Larissa as the schools President, I made a commitment to every parent, a promise to fulfill the vital need for a school which provides an ideal international education, which is a vision shared by all of us. Children spend their most important years in school. These are their formative years, a time when they absorb knowledge and develop the skills and talents they will rely on for the rest of their lives. As modern educators we want to give our students the experiences and knowledge they need to play an active role in the international world of the 21st century. Building a strong foundation is our goal: an international education with a view to tomorrow. How we intend to do this, is reflected uniquely in an exciting program of innovations. I am confident that through our efforts, the International School of Larissa, as part of the International Schools of Greece, will be in the forefront of private education in Greece.
